Annual Spring Pizza and Comedy Night Fundraiser at Prince Pizza

On March 31, 2009, Friends and supporters of the Social Center enjoyed a fun night of laughs and pizza for a good cause. Board members, staff, friends and family attended the event, and many have made attending the Social Centers’ Pizza and Comedy Night an annual tradition.  Comedians Dave Russo, Bob Gatreau, Jim Lauletta, and Ira Proctor referenced many East Boston memories that really got the crowd cheering. Prince Pizza’s staff provided great service and wonderful pizza, as always.

Many raffle prizes, and a “Split the Pot” raffle provided a chance for everyone to come out a winner.  The raffle featured over 40 items donated by area businesses. Executive Director John Kelly was assisted by Board members Joe Tozza, Valerie Brauer and Development Director Marisa Di Pietro in handing out prizes.  The Social Centers would like to thank everyone who attended for their generous support of the Social Centers and its programming.  We couldn’t do it without all of you!

A live auction for sports memorabilia was expertly conducted by Joe Ruggiero of Ruggiero-Mazzarella Memorial Home in East Boston.  The authenticated signed items were donated by the Celtics, the Red Sox and the Bruins.  Joe also donated a pair of Celtics tickets for which the competition to bid made it a great auction item.  Thank you Joe!

The Social Centers would like to thank the following businesses who donated raffle items and tickets:  Avon (Gloria DeVine), Balloon City of Boston, Bayside Resort in Cape Cod, Central Hardware, Danilchuk Auto Body, East Boston Diamond and Gold, East Boston Savings Bank, Everett Cooperative Bank, Kelly’s Roast Beef, Logan Hilton Hotel, Marty’s Furniture, Meridian 155 Café’, Peabody Essex Museum, Royal Roast Beef and Seafood, Santarpio’s Pizza, Six Flags New England, Spotless Cleaners, Squikee Clean Car Wash, Tupperware (Valerie Brauer) and Suffolk Downs.

All proceeds benefit the programs of the Social Centers, which serve more than 1,000 children, families and senior citizens each year. The Social Centers programs include Child Care for children ages two months to fourteen years, programming for at-risk youth, Summer Playschool day camp, and Senior programming.  We look forward to seeing everyone at our next Fundraiser.
